Budgam, Apr 25 (KNO): A class 8th girl has set up a martial arts club at her Repora village of Chadoora in central Kashmir’s Budgam district “to keep the youth involved in sports so that they can stay away from negative influences and activities”. The club was inaugurated by police Sub Inspector Chadoora, Sharafat Ahmad. Talking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Darafshan Mohuidin said the club aims to provide the youth with an opportunity to showcase their talent and achieve success in sports. Darafshan said she was motivated by her coaches and supported by her parents to pursue a career in sports. “Like me, many girls and boys in their teenage want to pursue a career in sports, particularly martial arts, but there are no clubs or academies in this area where they can learn. Without even considering that I am just in eighth grade, I took the initiative to set up the club at my home so that the youngsters in the neighbourhood can learn without any difficulties,” she said. Sub-Inspector Sharafat Ahmad hailed Darafshan’s initiative, saying it could help control the drug menace which has become a serious issue in the valley. Shuja Ahmad, the chairman of the academy, stressed the need for involving more youth in sports activities to combat drug addiction. He emphasised the role of civil society in such initiatives for the betterment of society—(KNO)
